The Agricultural Districts Law (ADL) was created in 1971 to encourage the continued use of farmland for agricultural production. The Program is based on a combination of landowner incentives and protections, all of which are designed to forestall the conversion of farmland to non-agricultural uses.

As a way to engage our 4-H families with our community, we are excited to offer Open Sew Nights. Join us for an evening filled with “sew” much fun while you “hem and mend” with friends! Four different workshops will be offered from February to May. Two will focus on sewing machine maintenance and proper seam finishing while others will allow you to get inspired to tap into your creative side!

Chainsaw Safety Certification courses are returning to Cattaraugus County in 2026! Training will be conducted by Bill Lindloff’s ProCuts through Game of Logging and hosted by CCE Cattaraugus. Each class is a full day of hands-on experience and will be held at the Pierce Whitney Forest in Machias, NY. Participants select one of the 2 days offered at LEVEL 1.
For years Cornell Cooperative Extension Master Gardeners have measured success by gardens planted, insects identified, produce harvested, and the millions of hours volunteers have logged by helping others learn to grow.
From farms and small towns to suburbs and the inner city, more than 2,600 volunteers statewide put their mission of “helping others learn to grow” into practice by providing gardening education and outreach in their communities. Take your love of gardening to the next level by joining the Master Gardeners in 2026.

Over the fall and winter months, water testing services has moved from weekly to monthly pick-up. Water samples are now processed on the FIRST Tuesday of each month. Water samples will need to be at the CCE Office, 28 Parkside Drive, Ellicottville by 9 AM the FIRST Tuesday of the month for processing.
Water Testing Kits are available for pick up in the CCE Cattaraugus office during business hours (9:00am-4:30pm). Results are sent directly to the home/farm as soon as they are available.
Laing-Gro, Division of Timac in collaboration with Cornell Cooperative Extension will be hosting their annual Winter Field Crop and Vegetable meetings in early February. These meetings, designed for field crop and vegetable producers will highlight industry updates and pesticide safety education for the 2026 growing season. DEC recertification credits will be available for attendees at each meeting. CCA continuing education credits will be available at the field crop meeting.
